The second-hand marketplace Members Voice Frustration Over Size Updates
Members of the platform have expressed outrage after an update resulted in items being listed as the wrong size.
The second-hand shopping app has updated its measurement guidelines for female and kids' apparel without notifying all shoppers about the modification.
Social Media Backlash
Numerous buyers and vendors are expressing on platforms saying Vinted listings now show a different size category than originally posted as a result of the reclassification.
The company said the updated approach better aligns with comparable marketplaces.
They have suggested members to check their listings and update the measurements by hand if necessary, resulting in member annoyance.
Measurement Approach Changes
Before the change, the sizes had both one number and one letter, like S/8 or M/10.
The updated approach includes a letter and a range such as S/UK 8-10.
With some products, the sizing has been recategorised - like an L measurement was formerly size 12 but now shows as UK 16-18.
Member Stories
A fashion influencer, who makes TikTok content about plus-size fashion, stated the update "complicates both purchasing and selling".
"Rarely do manufacturers list XL as sizes 20-22," the way the service now categorizes.
Another user, based in Glasgow, explained products she uploaded with size 14 tags were appearing on the platform as measurements 20-22.
"Should someone sized 20-22 purchase these they may become frustrated," she explained.
Manual Updates
Charlotte Lunn, based in Derby, stated she felt frustrated due to the update requiring manual adjustment the sizing for "all her products".
"Personally, this is quite irritating, because of my ongoing medical condition and platform income has been essential after experiencing income reduction," she stated.
Marketplace Information
The service features exceeding 100 million shoppers, comprising 18 million UK members.
It has proved a popular alternative versus similar marketplaces including eBay and Depop.
This is not the initial instance where an unanticipated change to the app has proved unpopular: previously, Vinted reversed a change to its shipping options following member complaints.
